Big Bay Stewardship Council is a community-driven initiative focused on preserving the environmental and cultural integrity of the Big Bay area. They support conservation, education, and sustainable development projects to maintain the region’s unique character and natural resources.
Friends of Harlow
Friends of Harlow’s non-profit mission is to promote and preserve the natural beauty of the Michigan DNR’s Little Presque Isle Tract through trail building and maintenance, open trail use advocacy, and environmental education. The all-volunteer group hosts workbees during the summer months and works closely with the Michigan DNR on mutual goals of public access and preservation.
Lake Superior Community Partnership
LSCP is an economic development organization serving Marquette County by providing business resources, networking opportunities, and advocacy. Their mission is to support sustainable growth, strengthen the regional economy, and enhance quality of life in the Upper Peninsula.
Lake to Lake Cooperative Invasive Species Management Area (CISMA)
This collaborative partnership works to prevent, manage, and reduce the spread of invasive species that threaten Michigan’s native ecosystems. By coordinating education, early detection, and treatment efforts, they help landowners and communities protect natural landscapes.
Marquette County Interscholastic Cycling
MCIC is a youth mountain biking program that provides student-athletes in Marquette County the opportunity to compete in the Wisconsin Interscholastic Cycling League. The organization promotes skill development, teamwork, and a lifelong love for cycling in a supportive and inclusive environment.
Munising Bay Trail Network
Munising Bay Trail Network/Friends of Valley Spur: A nonprofit organization dedicated to creating and maintaining high-quality multi-use trails in the Munising area for hikers, bikers, xc skiers and outdoor enthusiasts. They work closely with the Hiawatha National Forest at the Valley Spur Trails to enhance recreational opportunities while supporting tourism and sustainable outdoor access.
906 Adventure Team
906AT is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that empowers individuals—especially youth—to discover their potential through outdoor adventure, with a strong focus on cycling. Their programs promote resilience, confidence, and community engagement while encouraging a lifelong love for outdoor recreation. 906AT also hosts three major trail events using portions of the NTN trails including Marji Gesick, Polar Roll, and The Crusher.
Marquette Area Chapter of the North Country Trail
Marquette Area Chapter of the NCT: A volunteer-led chapter that maintains and promotes the North Country National Scenic Trail as it winds through Marquette County. Their efforts enhance hiking opportunities, connect communities to the trail, and foster appreciation for Michigan’s natural landscapes.
Northern Michigan University
If you are a current Northern Michigan University student, welcome! The NTN has a partnership with NMU that provides you access to the trails and also the ability to check out XC skis, snowshoes, and fat bikes for free daily use at the NTN Forestville Trailhead. Range Area Mountain Bike Club
RAMBA maintains the trails on Marquette County's west end between Negaunee and Ishpeming. The group not only maintains awesome hand built singletrack, they also host regular Wednesday night group rides and Sunday morning church rides.
START THE CYCLE
Start the Cycle is a cycling team program that introduces at-risk youth to a life full of success through winter fat tire and summer mountain biking. The volunteers and mentors provide the structure for participants to achieve goals and have a sense of belonging. The goal of the program is to complete the 906 Polar Roll Fat Tire Bike Race in February and the Ore 2 Shore Epic Mountain Bike Race in August.
Superiorland Ski Club
The Superiorland Ski Club mission is to provide Marquette’s ski community a chance to work together for the betterment of trails and facilities and to provide and support youth and adult skiing in our area. The Superiorland Ski Club offers a number of youth and adult nordic programs during the winter months and hosts a ski swap in the fall and a bike swap in the summer.
Superior Watershed Partnership
SWP is a nonprofit that leads environmental projects across Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, focusing on watershed restoration, pollution prevention, and sustainable energy initiatives. Through community-based conservation efforts, they work to protect and improve the region’s water quality and natural resources.
