What We Do
Since 2001, NTN has been all in—building trails, forging partnerships, and connecting people to the outdoors across the greater Marquette region. NTN’s mission statement is to secure, develop, maintain and promote the use of a non-motorized trail network thorughout th Central Upper Peninsula of Michigan. What began as a local push for better access has grown into a region-wide effort to create and protect a trail network that invites everyone to enjoy our nearby wild spaces.
NTN’s work doesn’t stop once the trail is built. Keeping it alive takes steady support—memberships, donations, community partnerships, and thousands of volunteer hours each year. Through land ownership, easements, and long-standing agreements with over 40 landowners, NTN is securing access for generations to come.
This is a 100% community-funded effort. No mystery money. Just people who care—investing in something real, lasting, and rooted in the place we call home.
If you ride it, run it, hike it, or ski it—you’re part of it. Help us keep the momentum going..
As of 2025 there are 7 trail systems and supporting facilities maintained by NTN from Marquette to Big Bay including:
85+ miles of single track trail
35 miles of groomed winter single track
80+ kilometers of groomed ski trail for classic and skate skiing
2 pump tracks
Forestville Trailhead with “chalet” building and 15 site primitive campground
South Trails Trailhead with pavilion, vault toilets, and Bike Park
Marquette Township Trailhead with pavilion
Funds for NTN’s work come 100% from annual memberships, donations, sponsorships, grants, fundraising events, and occasional contracted trail builds. NTN does not receive any direct local government funding for development or maintenance however a number of municipalities provide critical land access.
The Board of Directors generally meets the 3rd Tuesday every other month, 6pm. All are welcome to attend as a guest and learn how trails are made and protected. Contact the NTN office to confirm upcoming meetings. Committees made up of board members and volunteers help support the many activities of the NTN.
We invite you to join and get involved as a member, sponsor, or volunteer so that we can continue to provide and grow opportunities for outdoor recreation in the central U.P.
