Location: Off Saux Head Lake Road, ~14 miles north of Marquette

Mileage: 12 km

Uses: Classic & skate skiing, hiking, biking

Dogs: Allowed (on leash per Michigan law)

Trail Access

  • From Marquette, drive north on County Road 550,
    Turn right on Saux Head Lake Road, then left after 1 mile. Parking is ½ mile ahead on the left — look for the trailhead sign.

Emergencies: Dial 9-1-1

Dirt Season

  • Human-powered use welcome

  • Unmaintained for summer use but open to hiking and biking.

  • Be courteous to other users. 

  • Watch for signage on closures

Snow Season

  • Groomed distance: Approximately 12 km, maintained by volunteers

  • Groomed for both classic and skate skiing

  • Easy to moderate loops, perfect for mixed ability groups

  • Enjoy glimpses of Saux Head Lake, towering old-growth white pine and hemlock forests, and tranquil surroundings
