Grooming March 11, 2016
Spring Logging is underway: As most of you know, we ski on trails in a commercial forest. Without forestry we have no skiing. So, hug a forester or logger (when they are not logging or foresting). Some trails will be affected. A map is posted at the trail head and ribbon will close off affected trails. PLEASE DO NOT CROSS RIBBONS! The loggers have a job to do and continued interruptions make their job far more difficult. Thanks.

Forestville:   Overnight temperatures again fell below freezing so Carlson and Andy were out with the Ginzu. They took many passes and have the trails in very good shape. Groomers comment it is very fast and you may wish to wait until at least 8:00 AM and above freezing temperatures. With rapidly warming temperatures, 0% cloud cover and fully transformed snow, the Goldie Locks Predictor Formula currently used forecasts the “not too cold – not too warm” period to begin at 10:00 and continue through 2:00.

The Way Too Long Version:  I am reminded of the great line delivered at the end of the classic movie Little Caesar.  “Rico” (Edward Robinson) get shot. Everyone, including Rico must have known he would die with this Italian shoes on. As the realization of his demise comes, he is so surprised and says, “can this be the end of Rico?”. So, just as I am always surprised by that first skiable snow event, so too am I surprised by the end of winter.

So, although skiing looks to be good for a number of days, 24 hour thaws are forecast through the 6 day forecast. I expect by the time cold weather returns the base will be gone. So, we are not in “to win a bet” skiing yet, we are in the “last ski of the year contest”. Fabulous prizes will be awarded to the winner(s). Pictures welcome.

Please consider posting comments to our Face Book page. Skiers want to see your first hand comments, not my hackneyed drivel.   We are attempting to get a face book link on our web page but when is the last time you said, “boy, that was easy”. Anyway, Face Book link below:
