Grooming January 9, 2018

January,  9 2018;  Grooming Report

Forestville Real Grooming Report:  Groomers are out this morning and will clean up the skate lanes inside 17k on all trails.  If the classic tracks are less than good they will re-set the tracks.  They will also groom to Co Rd 510 and set classic tracks.  The ponds still have slush so track setting to the tourist park will have to wait another day at least.

Way Too Long Grooming Report:    The smart skiers will get out in front of the dreaded “wintery mix” forecast for later in the week.  We always have a January thaw but with luck it is followed up by several inches of snow and it is but a fleeting memory.  This looks to be the case here but if you can, sneak out today.

Saux Head: Tim groomed and track set everything Saturday.

Fit Strip: The Fit Strip was groomed yesterday.  The Fit Strip located in the Marquette Park Cemetery is open for skiing.  Parking is at the west end of the 800 block of Ridge Street.  You get to this two block long street by turning north off of Bluff St just east of Lincoln Ave.  It is a beautiful trail through mature mixed forest.  There are rolling hills on two loops with a total of 3k of very nice skiing right in the heart of Marquette.  Snow is a little thin so here are only classic tracks on part of the trail.  I would add, there are some people that actually walk on the ski trail.  I don’t understand why one would walk on a ski trail.  I do politely ask walkers to keep to the edge of the groomed trail.  I also encourage all users to put some money in the pay pipe so Tom doesn’t have to by all the gas himself.  Enjoy.

Big Bay Pathway: Groomers have been setting tracks on the Big Bay pathway. Big Bay is Classic only skiing through the spectacular forested hills just south of Big Bay.  Turn left at the sign right in town. The Big Bay Pathway is now partially open.  The Hidden Grin and Meditation loops are groomed.  The Bear Mountain Loop will be groomed by the end of this week.  We now have enough snow to work with and we are shoveling snow to fill in holes, tending to wet areas and packing our base.
