Grooming January 7, 2018

January,  7 2018;  Grooming Report

Forestville Real Grooming Report:  Finally no new overnight new snow.  The Bombi classic tracks from yesterday are still very good so groomers are cleaning up the skate lanes on all trails inside 17k.  The ponds developed slush yesterday so groomers had to wait for it to freeze before going below the ponds.  They are planning on getting classic tracks set to the Tourist Park today but I would like feedback on this section.  I would also like feedback on conditions beyond 17k.

Way Too Long Grooming Report:    Lake effect snow has presented a problem since humans first anthropomorphized significant weather events. For the past two centuries we have reserved names for systemic events. The Grooming Report Writer’s guild is dominated by traditionalists so lake effect snow has been all but ignored when it comes to being named.  However, the pattern we experienced this past week was wonderful and exceptional but remains unnamed. Now we have comfortable temperatures and wonderful snow.  Enjoy.

Saux Head: Tim groomed and track set everything yesterday.

Fit Strip: The Fit Strip should be groomed some time today.  The Fit Strip located in the Marquette Park Cemetery is open for skiing.  Parking is at the west end of the 800 block of Ridge Street.  You get to this two block long street by turning north off of Bluff St just east of Lincoln Ave.  It is a beautiful trail through mature mixed forest.  There are rolling hills on two loops with a total of 3k of very nice skiing right in the heart of Marquette.  Snow is a little thin so here are only classic tracks on part of the trail.  I would add, there are some people that actually walk on the ski trail.  I don’t understand why one would walk on a ski trail.  I do politely ask walkers to keep to the edge of the groomed trail.  I also encourage all users to put some money in the pay pipe so Tom doesn’t have to by all the gas himself.  Enjoy.

Big Bay Pathway: This snow event has our Big Bay crew assessing the situation.  We may now have enough snow to groom.  More information to follow soon.

Volunteer Opportunity!: We are really in need of help this Friday – Sunday from 1:30 – 4:00.  Want to meet interesting people, solve world problems, earn fabulous prizes and see the world?  You too can volunteer as a host at the Forestville Trail head.  Help is needed to help at the trail head from 10AM-1PM and 1PM-4PM on weekdays or weekends.  Please visit or call 906.235.6861 for details.  (editor’s note; our fact checking has indicated some of the above promises related to world problems, prizes and seeing the world may have been exaggerated).

PS: If you have not renewed your Trail Builder membership, now is the time.  Please don’t make me track you down. “
