Grooming January 5, 2018

January 5, 2018;  Grooming Report

Forestville Real Grooming Report:  Four more inches of new snow fell again overnight.  Doug is out with the Bombi running to Co Rd 510.  The rest of the crew is out roll packing everything from 14k to the Tourist Park.

Way Too Long Grooming Report:    Wow, is this cool!  I don’t recall so many days of lake effect in a row in some time.  The smart guys/gals will figure out a way to avoid the office and go straight to the Bombi carpet.  Enjoy.

I would typically now go into the named storm thing but have a full plate and don’t even know what Saints are feted today. We are getting ready for tomorrow’s Special Olympics cross country ski and snow shoe events.  NTN has traditionally groomed the trails and helped with the technical aspects.  This year the cross country and snow shoe events will be near Marquette Mountain at the Rippling River Resort.  Please give a big thank you to everyone involved with Rippling River and the Special Olympics.  Please consider cheering on these athletes tomorrow morning.

Saux Head: Tim will pack as soon as his schedule permits.

Fit Strip: The Fit Strip was groomed yesterday but even more snow over night will be packed as soon as schedule permits.   The Fit Strip located in the Marquette Park Cemetery is open for skiing.  Parking is at the west end of the 800 block of Ridge Street.  You get to this two block long street by turning north off of Bluff St just east of Lincoln Ave.  It is a beautiful trail through mature mixed forest.  There are rolling hills on two loops with a total of 3k of very nice skiing right in the heart of Marquette.  Snow is a little thin so here are only classic tracks on part of the trail.  I would add, there are some people that actually walk on the ski trail.  I don’t understand why one would walk on a ski trail.  I do politely ask walkers to keep to the edge of the groomed trail.  I also encourage all users to put some money in the pay pipe so Tom doesn’t have to by all the gas himself.  Enjoy.

Big Bay Pathway: This snow event has our Big Bay crew assessing the situation.  We may now have enough snow to groom.  More information to follow soon.

Volunteer Opportunity!: We are really in need of help this Friday – Sunday from 1:30 – 4:00.  Want to meet interesting people, solve world problems, earn fabulous prizes and see the world?  You too can volunteer as a host at the Forestville Trail head.  Help is needed to help at the trail head from 10AM-1PM and 1PM-4PM on weekdays or weekends.  Please visit www.noquetrails.org or call 906.235.6861 for details.  (editor’s note; our fact checking has indicated some of the above promises related to world problems, prizes and seeing the world may have been exaggerated).
