Grooming January 4, 2018

January 4, 2018;  Grooming Report

Forestville Real Grooming Report:  Four inches of new snow fell overnight.  Groomers are out will rollers packing everything from 17k to the tourist park.

Way Too Long Grooming Report:    I envision Snoopy doing his happy dance.  This snow event is the one that brings us from early season to high season and it is a little overdue. It will take a while to get everything track set.  I should add, the surface will be soft and pole plants will be soft.  On the up side, persons making sitzmarks will say it is soft too.

Saux Head: Tim will pack as soon as his schedule permits.

Fit Strip: The Fit Strip will be packed as soon as schedule permits.   The Fit Strip located in the Marquette Park Cemetery is open for skiing.  Parking is at the west end of the 800 block of Ridge Street.  You get to this two block long street by turning north off of Bluff St just east of Lincoln Ave.  It is a beautiful trail through mature mixed forest.  There are rolling hills on two loops with a total of 3k of very nice skiing right in the heart of Marquette.  Snow is a little thin so here are only classic tracks on part of the trail.  I would add, there are some people that actually walk on the ski trail.  I don’t understand why one would walk on a ski trail.  I do politely ask walkers to keep to the edge of the groomed trail.  I also encourage all users to put some money in the pay pipe so Tom doesn’t have to by all the gas himself.  Enjoy.

Big Bay Pathway: This snow event has our Big Bay crew assessing the situation.  We may now have enough snow to groom.  More information to follow soon.

Volunteer Opportunity!: We are really in need of help this Friday – Sunday from 1:30 – 4:00.  Want to meet interesting people, solve world problems, earn fabulous prizes and see the world?  You too can volunteer as a host at the Forestville Trail head.  Help is needed to help at the trail head from 10AM-1PM and 1PM-4PM on weekdays or weekends.  Please visit or call 906.235.6861 for details.  (editor’s note; our fact checking has indicated some of the above promises related to world problems, prizes and seeing the world may have been exaggerated).

PS: If you have not renewed your Trail Builder membership, now is the time.  Please don’t make me track you down. “
