Grooming December 16, 2017

December 16, 2017;  Grooming Report

Forestville Real Grooming Report: This morning groomers cleaned up the skate lanes on all trails inside the 17k mark.  Yesterday the set classic tracks on all trails inside 17k and they remain in very good shape.  Also, they did roll all the way to Co Rd 510 yesterday but watch out for the few habitually wet springs near (I think) 20k and 22k.  With the thin cover please use extreme caution on the steep down hills.

Way Too Long Grooming Report:    I must apologize to the historians in the readership.  Grooming after all is a 20th century invention.  I should know this too as I saw it in its infancy.  In the olden days grooming was done by a tractor contraption (typically a Tucker Sno Cat) dragging a netting of chains over the alpine slopes.  This business of mile of manicured skate lanes through the woods is one of the marvelous features of the post modern age. Before the 20th century one skied on what was there even in icy conditions.  So, when I referred to Sir Thomas More’s fame as a grooming report writer, I should have said, ski condition report writer.  My apologies to the Utopian Society.

Saux Head: Tim rolled Saux Head Thursday and reports good skate skiing but no classic tracks.  Track setting looks to be after the first of next week.

PS: If you have not renewed your Trail Builder membership, now is the time.  Please don’t make me track you down. “
