Grooming Dec 22, 2016

December 22, 2016; grooming report

Real Grooming Report Forestville: Five Inches of new snow fell at the trail head yesterday. Andy and Bob are roll packing to 17k on the Noque’ and Animoosh as well as all trails inside 17k. They will then set track as time permits starting with the Noque’ and Animoosh.

Real Grooming Report Saux Head: Saux Head trails were were groomed and tracked Tuesday with a nice base. It will need to be rolled with this new snow. The team will be out as soon as time permits; hopefully today. Check out the Noque’ Nordic Skiing Face Book page for up to the minute information. I’ll post as soon as I hear more information. Grooming at Saux Head is on an as needed basis but at least once per week.

Fit Strip Trails: The Fit Strip in Marquette is now open for skiers. Trails were groomed last night. Skiing should be excellent although the skate lane will be a little soft. Trails are groomed for skate and classic technique. Grooming is performed as needed but at least once per week. Skiers should be advised that some people do also walk on the groomed trails so expect some foot prints.

Way Too Long Grooming Report: I know in some precincts a five inch snow event would qualify as a storm. However, the curia has spoken. Snow without the accompanying wind and cyclonic pattern only deserves to be named in unusual circumstances. For example, if this event fell on Halloween or Mother’s Day or it was over one foot deep there may have been an exception. As it is, it is just great to see; like manna from heaven.

Trail Host Volunteers Needed: I expect you have enjoyed the company and service of our trail head hosts over the years. You too can be a host volunteer. It is fun and warm work. You get to play with fire, meet interesting people and perform a valuable service to the community. The ideal volunteer provides services for a 3 hour shift once a week M-F. Our trail head coordinator is JJ Farrington. Please stop and say hi. If you would like to help out, call JJ Farrington for details. 248-242-2723.
