Grooming January 19, 2018

January, 19 2018;  Grooming Report Forestville Real Grooming Report:  Last night Andy groomed the skate lanes on everything between Forestville and the 17k mark. Way Too Long Grooming Report:    I had the great good fortune to ski from TP to 510 and back yesterday.  With the exception of the first 2k foot traffic, the entire trail was spectacular.  Day old Bombi grooming cleans up very well with the Ginzu. I went out via Bagwagi and returned on Chiwagi.  At noon I was stunned to see no skate tracks on Bagwagi.  So, I would like to be serious for a minute

January, 18 2018;  Grooming Report Forestville Real Grooming Report:  Yesterday’s Bombi classic tracks are still in great shape so groomers are cleaning up the skate lanes on all trails inside the 17k mark.  Yesterday the groomers were able to build a path through the slush on the ponds so there are classic tracks and skate lane to the Tourist Park.  The picture above is from the log yard near the Tourist Park. Way Too Long Grooming Report:    Ten days out.  I’m sure I am not the only one counting the days to the Noquemanon Ski Marathon.  With the tourist park

January,  17 2018;  Grooming Report Forestville Real Grooming Report:  Bombi grooming again!  Doug will head out Bagwagi to Co Rd 510 and return via Chiwagi.  The Bombi sets the best classic tracks and leaves a wide flat skate lane too. It will be spectacular.  In addition, Andy will be out with the Ginzu on all other trails inside 14k.  After that they will attempt again to cross the ponds and groom to the Tourist Park but new snow is what causes slush to spill over the ice so there are no guarantees. Way Too Long Grooming Report:    Well, there are

January,  16 2018;  Grooming Report Forestville Real Grooming Report:  Five inches of fluffy snow is being rolled by Bob.  The plan is to start on the Noque and Animoosh to 17k and work out from there.  Classic tracks will be set as time permits.  Bob is alone today.  A full reset will take place tomorrow. Way Too Long Grooming Report:    Those of you that did heed the call were greeted by spectacular skiing.  I know it was only groomed to 17k but the section from 17k to 510 was so wonderful that superlatives are inadequate.  One can not say a

January,  15 2018;  Grooming Report Forestville Real Grooming Report:  Kirby is out with the Gator and the wide 108 Ginzu and cleaning the skate lanes and re-setting classic tracks on the Noque and Animoosh.  Light snow is falling at dawn. Way Too Long Grooming Report:    Skiing beyond 17k and the side trails including the Wagis should still be quite nice although the forecast “less than inch” may turn into enough to cover your ski tips if the lake effect over delivers.  We are still working on building an ice bridge to avoid the pond slush so tourist park skiing will

January,  14 2018;  Grooming Report Forestville Real Grooming Report:  Groomers are going out to 17k and around the pine plantation to clean up the skate lanes on the Noque and Animoosh.  Yesterday’s Bombi made classic tracks are still in very good shape.  Later in the day groomers will go down to the ponds in an attempt to secure a slush free route so we can groom to the tourist park.   Low traffic on the side trails and beyond 17 k will mean those trails will still be very good too. Way Too Long Grooming Report:    I am writing today from

January,  13 2018;  Grooming Report Forestville Real Grooming Report:  Bombi Grooming Today!  Doug will run the Bombi out Bagwagi, turn around at Co Rd 510 and return via Chiwagi and will groom both the hill by passes and the hills of Chiwagi.  Bob is taking the Gator out on the Noque, Animoosh and the inner loops.  He will clean up the skate lanes and any areas where the classic tracks are poor.  Carlson went down to check the ponds and there is slush again so no grooming to the tourist park today. Way Too Long Grooming Report:    Today’s cold temperatures

Grooming January 12, 2018

January,  12 2018;  Grooming Report Forestville Real Grooming Report:  Four inches of new snow overnight is drifting in open areas.  Groomers are rolling and then will groom and track set as much as time permits starting with the Noque’ and Animoosh to 17k. Way Too Long Grooming Report:    Weather forecasting has become so accurate it takes some of the thrill out of snow events.  In the olden days the kids would wake up and turn on the radio when it was a white out. School would be closed and we would all go skiing; except the un-athletic (I think that

January,  11 2018;  Grooming Report Forestville Real Grooming Report:  Warm overnight temperatures keep groomers parked this morning.  Groomers will be back at tomorrow as cold weather is forecast.  Yesterday groomers were able to cross the ponds and set track down to the Tourist Park.  I should add, the last 2k of track are fair at best and the annoying foot traffic is ever present on that section. Way Too Long Grooming Report:    To paraphrase John Hay, this was a splendid little thaw.  It was just long enough to let us get that hump out of the mouth of the driveway

Grooming January 10, 2018

January,  10 2018;  Grooming Report Forestville Real Grooming Report:  The snow remained cold this morning so groomers are out. The plan is to  clean up the primary skate lanes within 17K- Noque, Animoosh, Mukwa, Chiwaji, Migizi, and inner loops around Trailhead. Again they will take a Ginzu down to the ponds and check conditions. If the ice is good they will go to Tourist Park and attempt to set track back to Trailhead. Way Too Long Grooming Report:    Based on the paucity of tracks at Co Rd 510 I fear one of two things a foot.  First, and most likely,
