Grooming Report 12/28/12

Forestville: Down Wind Sports Demo days to be held Jan 5th from 9-3.  Details to follow soon.  Save the date!

Animoosh, Waaban & Noque to 16k, two ginzu grooms for the Skate lanes. Bagwagi, Chiwagi & Migizi; one ginzu groom on skate lane. New tracks to be set tonight.

There is still some air in the snow and small race baskets occasionally punch through. Typically this is especially true on the outside pole plant for classic skiers. In an effort to combat this effect we have taken care to pack the outside of the trail prior to track setting and have shifted the track further from the edge. Please visit us on Facebook and leave a comment. Knowing your opinion will help us provide a better product. Details below:

Fit Strip: Groomed and tracked 12/22. Rock skis recommended.

Blueberry Ridge: The DNR has elected to groom Blueberry Ridge this year. DNR equipment will be on site in January. In the mean time Friends of Blueberry Ridge have been grooming some of the trails. I have heard skiing is good and many trails are open. Wildcat is one of the trails not yet open. We will post detailed reports as they become available.

Valley Spur: We have received a 1/4″ to a 1/2″ of snow. Not much but enough to dress the trails. We will be combing and tracking trails today. Trails A,B,C,D,W,Y and Z are open. We expect to have E,F and G open as of 12/27.

The annual New Year’s Eve potluck is on schedule for December 31 beginning at 6:00 pm. Bring a dish to pass and your own place setting. Spend some time skiing, socializing and eating!  Other upcoming events are:

1/5 The Eki Loppet -7K or 14K classic or freestyle race. Registration on day of the race from 8:00 to 9:30 am, pick up a registration form in the lodge or print one off at: http://valleyspur.org/pdf/2013ekiloppetregistration.pdf Use it as a tune-up for the Noque race or a challenge for yourself.

Snow bike route update.
We packed yesterday morning and groomed last night. The trails are in great shape, 3-4 psi still recommended. Also added close to a 2 mile loop west of green/red trail, near Enchantment Lake.

Snow bike tech tip.
If you ride to the trails on the road, bring your pump with you so you can re-inflate your tires to get back home. This new sport is ALL about float, which can lead to multiple air changes in one ride and maybe even 1 mile! The better the conditions the less fiddling (kinda like wax is to xc skiing as air pressure is to fat biking)
