Winter

November 28, 2018;    Grooming Report:

November 28, 2018;    Grooming Report: Andy scratched the surface on the Noque’ to 17k, Animoosh. Muckwa, Migizi and Chiwagi via the hill by pass. Expect good to very good skate skiing but watch for the thin spots under the power lines at 10k and under the hemlock groves. I continue to use my good skis.  I don’t even know you folks that actually have “race” skis so I don’t know what to tell you.  There is still too little new snow to re-set the classic tracks.  They are fair to good.   Way too long report: No WTLR report today.

November 27, 2018;    Grooming Report:

November 27, 2018;    Grooming Report: Another dusting of new snow on top of a nice base will be nature’s grooming on the Noque’ to 17k, Animoosh. Muckwa, Migizi and Chiwagi via the hill by pass.   There is still too little new snow to re-set the classic tracks.  They are fair to good.   Way too long report: No WTLR report today.  See the TLTR below but be forewarned, it is Too Long To Read.   TLTR Report: I learned a new acronym yesterday.  I expect everyone under the age of say, 50, already knows TLTR and uses it frequently when

November 26, 2018;    Grooming Report:

November 26, 2018;    Grooming Report: New snow of 1-2 inches on has brought us back to very good skiing.  Andy brought out the wide 108 Ginzu to smooth out the skate lanes on the Noque’ to 17k, Animoosh. Muckway, Migizi and Chiwagi via the hill by pass.   There was not enough new snow to reset the classic tracks.  They are fair to good.   Way too long report: I fear I under sold conditions yesterday.  I had an enjoyable ski yesterday and saw smiling faces on the four or five skiers I encountered.  It was thin at the power lines

November 25, 2018;    Grooming Report:

November 25, 2018;    Grooming Report: A return to freezing temperatures will have a hard service on the Noque’ to 17k and Animoosh.  We expect the powerlines at 10k and areas under hemlock groves will likely have some dirt showing. I fear the rolled sections of Chiwaji bypass, Muckwa, Waaban, Migizi, and Gookookoo will have some ruts that will make skiing difficult. With new snow likely tonight and tomorrow this icy skiing looks to be short lived.  Groomers will be out to assess and groom as soon as weather permits. Any first hand reports will be appreciated.   Way too long

November  24, 2018;  Grooming Report Forestville Real Grooming Report: What a difference a day makes.  We are now into a second day of warm temperatures.  Groomers are parked and skiers are cautioned to avoid soft trails.  If your skis punch through the base please do not continue.  One skier can ruin the base for everyone.   Way Too Long Grooming Report:   Remember last week? We have all experienced such periods.  You know the feeling: The sock drawer is fully matched; the snow plow driver left the spoils in the neighbor’s driveway; the fat man that stood on your neck wore

November 23, 2018;    Grooming Report: Warm overnight temperatures have our groomers parked today but skiing will remain very good on the Noque’ to 17k and Animoosh. Chiwaji bypass, Muckwa, Waaban, Migizi, and Gookookoo have been rolled but are still rather soft and with the soft snow it is best to avoid.   Way too long report: At 10 AM yesterday I was the first skate skier to enjoy the hill at 11k! This raises several important issues.  First, why did so many skiers take the Animoosh by pass of this wonderful hill?  Did they all have dogs or cats with

November 22, 2018;    Grooming Report:

November 22, 2018;    Grooming Report: We all have many things for which to be thankful.  One of them is Andy’s long night in the saddle.  With three inches of fresh snow trails needed to be rolled.  For the rest of the night Andy track set on the Noque’ to 17k and Animoosh.  Skate skiers will enjoy Chiwaji bypass, Muckwa, Waaban, Migizi, and Gookookoo with no classic tracks.   Way too long report: Weather forecasting and the sports section both share a key element in the human spirit.  When my team wins the world takes on a brighter aspect.  Big city

Grooming November 20, 2018

November  20, 2018;  Grooming Report Forestville Real Grooming Report: A foot of new snow yesterday had groomers burning the midnight oil last night.  We (I had a mouse in my pocket) roll pack a wide swath on the Noque’ to and around the pine plantation as well as Animoosh (including “New Animoosh” and “New New Animoosh” for those of you that remember the evolution of Animoosh).  Snow depth at the pine plantation and points west was such that it buried the roller.  The roller would not roll over the snow and we had to run the machine to pack first.

November  19, 2018;  Grooming Report

November  19, 2018;  Grooming Report Forestville Real Grooming Report:  An inch of new snow overnight will be nature’s grooming for today’s skiers.  As you recall, on Saturday we roll packed the Noque’ to  the 19k mark near the gate as well as Animoosh, Zing and Boozhoo.  Skating yesterday afternoon was very good.  Classic was also good but there are no classic tracks set as of yet. Andy is back from the first weekend of Deer camp and will groom tonight.   Way Too Long Grooming Report:   Did you look at the 6 day forecast?  Could it get any better?  Snow

Grooming November 18, 2018

November  18, 2018;  Grooming Report Forestville Real Grooming Report:  Yesterday noon we roll packed the Noque’ to 19k as well as Animoosh, Zing and Boozhoo.  Skating yesterday afternoon was very good.  Classic was also good but there are no classic tracks set as of yet.   Way Too Long Grooming Report:   First, please know, I am wearing my hair shirt for failing to get a report out yesterday.  We had technical difficulties.  Our carrier pigeon broke a wing and had to walk all the way to spruce street.   On a lighter note, I got new skis yesterday!  Now, some
