2012 Single Track Season “Thank you”

Dear Singletrack Supporter, With our first snowfall of the season in the books, our trail building season is nearing the end.  The singletrack committee is proud of what we were able to accomplish this year: ~We kept 2 crews in the woods building trail all summer; one on the south trails and one on the new north trail system.  Each crew was led by a volunteer who was typically putting in 30+ hours of week.   They also had paid trail workers putting in 20-50 hours per week.  The NTN has paid almost $20,000 in wages for our workers this year

Ready and Waiting for Snow

The NTN made a goal last spring to do many things.  One of them was to do more marketing locally and throughout the Midwest.  We need to spread the word about the great skiing we have here in Marquette.   The plan is to write weekly to our favorite sites like Skinny Ski and Faster Skier, post more photos on facebook and have the NTN board share their fun out of the trails, volunteering, skiing, dreaming, or just relaxing.  So with that, I present to you one of the first weekly posts from a NTN board member about another goal fulfilled.

NTN Forestville Trailhead Facility Gets a Facelift While you’ve been hiking, biking, swimming and enjoying our beautiful UP summer, a lot of improvements have been underway at the Forestville Trailhead. The big news is a second bathroom has been installed. We now have a water fountain, a door that has a window to avoid inadvertent collisions and some other interior alterations. Our goal before opening for the ski season is to give the interior a fresh coat of paint and create some Nordic décor. We’re looking for donations to brighten up our building. 1.       Old race bibs 2.       Old skis

Records were set this year with 2,387 riders taking part in the 48-mile, 28-mile, 10-mile and various youth events. We are especially proud of the number of kids that race at our event. It is very gratifying to see mom and dad who raced earlier in the day cheering for their children who are racing in the afternoon.

O2S Volunteer Oppotunites

August is just around the corner, which means last minute logistics are underway for the Marquette General Health System 2012 Ore to Shore Mountain Bike Epic to be held on Saturday, August 11.  Last year’s race was a huge success, thanks in part to all of the volunteers who so generously gave their time and talents to a wonderful community event.  One sentiment that has been consistent throughout the race’s history is the volunteer support we receive.  From day one, our bikers have been thrilled with the volunteers throughout the course, the spirit and excitement that they’ve shown, and the

The trail is fresh, 2.25 miles for riding, walking, running, hiking and other non-motorized uses, part of the Dead River (Orange Loop) that will see development for the next several years. “ Our plan is to build trails all the way around the (Dead River) basin in a loop that connects to Tourist Park and also to a
