Our goal is to raise $50,000 to build a pavilion at the Heartwood Trailhead in South Marquette.
About The Project
The Heartwood Forest or “South Trail” system is the jewel of non-motorized recreation trails in Marquette County. The Heartwood trails are enjoyed by a large number of area residents and visitors. Our trails are an economic driver for the community bringing in tourists and permanent residents. The Heartwood trails consist of 40 miles of singletrack trails. The trailhead is located on CR 553 near Division Street; just north of the Marquette Mountain Ski Area.
The current trailhead is a poorly designed gravel lot with no facilities. Our goal is to construct a pavilion and provide an organized parking lot to allow for more visitors, improve safety, and accommodate hosting events. The pavilion will be a public facility, built by the NTN and donated to the City of Marquette. The pavilion is designed to complement other city parks, and will be mostly open air, with a private changing station.
The construction is scheduled to begin in early September. Our goal is to have the project completed in the fall of 2014.
Read more about the project in The Mining Journal.
Please donate to improve your trail access and help make this project possible!
All donations over $100 will be recognized on a permanent sign prominently displayed in the pavilion. Large donations will receive additional recognition, please call to inquire if interested.
